Description
This product has been expertly carved into an elegant, environmentally conscious hospitality wine bottle holder. It is made from bamboo trees by highly talented youthful Rwandan artists. The bamboos are harvested from plantations in the highlands of Kinigi, Musanze district and additional supplies from China imports and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are then skillfully wooven into various shapes, such as this bottle holder. Although bamboo art and products are believed to have originated from Japan and made popular in China and Vietnam, bamboo growing has largely been embraced in many countries, including Rwanda. The creators of this basket say their interest was awakened upon learning about the potential of Umugano or bamboo products. They have since developed an impressive array of products out of the plant while training other youth peers, especially young girls, to learn the craft.
